Delta Dental of Virginia Foundation Grant Guidelines
The following is an overview of the Delta Dental of Virginia Foundation grant guidelines. Before applying for a grant, please review the complete listing of our grant guidelines.
Funding Priorities
Funding is provided for new initiatives, to sustain ongoing treatment of existing programs, start-up funding or one-time events that will include one or more of the following Foundation grant criteria.

Access to care
Initiatives focus on breaking down the barriers that prevent uninsured or underinsured individuals from accessing oral health care and/or the delivery of care in their communities. Examples include: increasing the number of dental patients seen, providing for additional dental staff or equipment, or eliminating barriers that keep patients from keeping appointments.

Oral health education
Initiatives focus on providing oral health education to the public, with a special focus on low income individuals and children, as well as enhancing educational initiatives for those pursuing a career in oral heath.

Research
Initiatives strive to achieve advances in oral health through research by focusing on improving oral health through medical, educational and behavioral research.
Grant eligibility
The following entities may apply for a grant from the Delta Dental of Virginia Foundation:
- Any public agency or private non-profit holding a 501(c)(3) tax-exemption*;
- Any organization with a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt fiscal sponsor; or
- An applicant for federal tax-exemption under 501(c)(3).
Types of projects eligible for funding:
- Continue or expand dental treatment services
- Dental equipment or supplies for dental safety net clinics
- Oral health educational materials or programs
- Fluoride varnish applications
- Fluoride equipment
*If the applicant is a free clinic or a community health center, it must be a member in good standing with either the Virginia Association of Free Clinics or the Virginia Community Healthcare Association.
Grant application process
The Delta Dental of Virginia Foundation accepts applications for oral health grants from September 1-30 each year. Grant applications can be completed online and must be received on or before September 30. Applications received after this date will not be considered. The Foundation reviews proposals and makes grant decisions in the fall, and funds are distributed in December.
To be considered for funding, applicants must complete and submit a grant application and the required documentation. Applications can be completed online, or the form can be printed and submitted via fax or mail to the address on the form.
